Stand On It
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.” So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, “By evening you will realize it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt. In the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your complaints, which are against him, not against us.” — Exodus 16:4–7
Even in our groaning, the Lord still provides for us.
When the Israelites cried out in hunger, God didn’t just hear their complaints—He responded with compassion and provision. He rained down manna, not only to feed their bodies but also to test and shape their hearts.
Reflection Question: In moments of distress, where do you turn for comfort? Is it to food? Entertainment? Numbing distractions? What are you feeding—your flesh or your spirit?
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” — Matthew 4:4
In the wilderness, Jesus faced hunger and temptation, just as Israel had. But where Israel failed over 40 years, Jesus remained faithful over 40 days. He stood firmly on the Word of God.
Jesus completed what Israel couldn’t.
When we’re in our own “wilderness”—tired, hungry, tempted—remember this: God is still our provider. Not just of physical needs, but of sustaining, life-giving truth. Stand on that Word. Trust in His provision. Feed your spirit, not just your body.
Build On It
“I will build my life upon Your love, it is a firm foundation. I will put my trust in You alone, and I will not be shaken.” — Firm Foundation by Cody Carnes
After learning to stand on God’s Word in the wilderness, we’re called to build on it in faith.
Standing is about trusting God's provision in the storm. Building is about planting our roots deep, so when the storms come—we remain unmoved.
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” — Matthew 7:24–25
God’s Word isn’t just something we stand on for temporary strength—it’s what we build our lives upon. His love, His truth, His promises… these are the materials of an unshakable foundation.
